PDF File Preparation

I. Document Setup

  • Page size should be setup to the exact trim size of the title and with a 3mm bleeding margin.

II. Fonts

  • We encourage you to provide complete screen and printer fonts with the PDF files. This will further facilitate preflight evaluation, and will enable us to make minor text corrections to the files.
  • Use the actual font from the font menu (e.g. Garamond Bold) rather than applying a style such as bold, from the style menu.

III. Images

  • We require that files be submitted with high-resolution images embedded.
  • The image should contain an output resolution of 300 dpi.
  • The line drawing images should contain an output resolution of 800 dpi.
  • When an image requires enlargement or reduction of 20% or greater, rescanning or resizing the image to the final output size is recommended.

IV. Color Space

  • All images and design elements should be defined with 4-color process inks.
  • It is advisable not to use RGB. Images may print black and white or print with unacceptable color shifts if not converted to CMYK.
  • Unless you plan to print using additional ink for a spot or custom color, use CMYK settings for all colors, including spot color.
  • If client prefers to use RGB format, OGP has the expertise and experience to test and work with materials to produce impressively high quality results within today's rapidly changing technology. However, please contact us to further discuss your needs (Click to our contact area)

V. Layout & Proof

  • Send a black-and-white laser print or color proof along with the final file. If you send file via FTP or E-mail, also fax a laser printout of the job or supply a hard-copy proof.
  • Generate your proof from the same final electronic mechanicals.
  • If a page is too large to proof at 100% of its actual size, write the reduction on the proof.

VI. File Generation

  • Do not use Acrobat's PDF writer to generate the PDF files because those files are not based on Postscript but rather the computer internal imaging technology.
  • The use of Acrobat Distiller to generate PDF files is popular, but make sure it is set to the "Press" option.
